Ortegra designs and builds great web applications. The process needed to achieve this is based around our “Ortegra methodology”
Web applications are complex and dynamic living entites and the best ones are the sites that have been planned from the outset. The first and very critical stage in the Ortegra methodology is the Project Definition Stage. (PD) We believe without the up front planning and the PD phase the site will not be designed and built to the correct specification and will take longer to do.
What is a PD?
Even if you have a good idea of what you want and have decided on next steps a blueprint of your project is essential. This can then be used by any development organization that will build your web app including Ortegra. The PD document created by Ortegra can be used by any third party as the overview of your project.
A PD is a collection of modules that all together form the blueprint or architects overview of your app.
How do we create the PD?
Ortegra will run a workshop with the client(s) in order to fully understand the business model and web requirements. Defining a project is a process of selection and reduction of the ideas and perspectives of those involved into a set of clearly defined objectives, key success criteria and evaluated risks.
The session will explore all the aspects of the project including the features and functionality for the system being developed and understanding of how it fits in with the overall strategy of the business.
Then Ortegra will create a series of deliverables that incorporate a plan for the next stages. It is the ultimate planning tool for your app.
What are the Deliverables?
After the workshop Ortegra will put together a detailed mind map and a project definition document.
{mind map} is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing.
The PD document can cover some or all of the following (It will depend on the scope of the PD as to which elements you will receive)
- An overall plan of the project incorporating the phases in the Ortegra methodology
- An overview of the project outlining the key functionality
- An estimate of time to deliver the project and potential cost
- Optional ideas to enhance and improve the web app including proposed phases to reduce initial cost
- Proposals for monetization
Benefit of a Project Definition exercise:
It must be done! The PD can be used as an RFP to obtain quotes from other development houses. But it is the core planning and strategic tool for any web app design and build including Ortegra methodology.
It will be a succinct and well-written overview of your project with samples that can be used to help in raising funding for the project.
It enables clarity of thinking for the project as very often it is not fully understood.
Formulates and clarifies your web strategy in a document.
